The Tennessee Volunteers are 1-0 to start their season and now have their sights set on a week two matchup against Pittsburgh.
In 2021, led by Josh Heupel in just his second game at the helm for Tennessee, the Volunteers narrowly lost to the Panthers by a score of 41-34 in the inaugural Johnny Majors Classic. Now, Tennessee will look for revenge this year as they hit the road this coming Friday for Pittsburgh.
Before that, though, Heupel opened up the week with a press conference on Monday. Heupel began the 15-minute interview with the media by discussing his closing thoughts on Tennessee’s week one game against Ball State, including highlighting a few players that he was impressed with.
Heupel also flipped the script to start talking about the Vols’ week two matchup in Pitt. With SEC East rivals Florida and Georgia picking up big-time non-conference ranked wins during week one, Tennessee’s game against No. 17 Pittsburgh just became that much more valuable here early in the season.
Trailing by seven points with just five minutes remaining, Pittsburgh closed their week one game against West Virginia on a 14-to-nothing run that gave the Panthers the come-from-behind victory. With Tennessee handily defeating Ball State on Thursday as well, both teams could very well be ranked heading into their week two showdown this Saturday afternoon.
